The right dinnerware for every occasion
Plates are generally divided into deep plates and flat plates. Flat plates include the standard dinner plate, whilst deep plates are suitable for soups, salads, desserts and many other dishes. Both deep and flat plates add a touch of elegance with their timeless design. Combined with the matching cutlery, you can guide your guests through the menu in style.
Patterns, fashionable colours or charming decorations give every plate a unique look, so that the dinnerware also stands out beautifully as a table and home accessory:
The standard dinner plate is arguably one of the best-known examples of flat plates. Large plates made of porcelain or stoneware are often used for main courses, whilst smaller plates are used for desserts, bread or as breakfast plates.

Dinner plates are the universal all-rounders among plates. They are always a suitable choice for starters, main courses or dessert, as a porcelain dinner plate complements many meals. The classic dinner plate is flat and, depending on the model, has either no rim at all or a narrow one. It is placed on the service plates.

Bread plates are very small plates, so that often only a single slice of bread or baguette fits on them. They have a slightly concave shape and are placed to the left above the place setting. Combined with a knob of herb butter or drizzled with a little oil, these accompaniments to the meal really come into their own.

Breakfast plates resemble conventional dinner plates, but are significantly smaller. In some tableware sets, breakfast plates also serve as cake and dessert plates. Due to their flat shape, they are versatile and can also be used for small portions of a main meal.

Service plates are very wide and flat plates. Dinner plates, soup plates and dessert plates are placed on top of them. A service plate protects the set table from crumbs and food scraps and, thanks to its high decorative value, is firmly established in elegant tableware culture. At Rosenthal, you’ll find a wide variety of service plates, ranging from large gold plates to large, beautiful plates with intricate decorations.

As the name suggests, these plates are ideal for serving crispy pizzas. Thanks to the plate’s flat, rimless shape, the pizza can be cut and served with ease.
Soups, pasta, desserts, stews – the uses for a deep plate are manifold. Thanks to their mostly round shape, these plates look elegant and timeless on a set table. Whether as a set or individually, these plates form the perfect foundation for bringing culinary ideas to life with style.
To the deep plates
This plate with a high rim is flat and rounded, allowing cream soups, vegetable broths or hearty stews to be served without spilling. Although they are mostly used for starters or main courses, porcelain soup plates are also suitable for sweet desserts. They are placed on top of the dinner plates.
To the soup plates
Salad plates are close relatives of the soup plates. They are not as deep as soup plates, but deep enough to prevent salad dressing from spilling over. Salad plates can alternatively also be used as dessert plates for cold soups, ice cream or pudding.
The shape of a pasta plate is unique: it is very large and has a steep recess in which the pasta can be generously served. Pasta and pasta sauce stay in place in these deep plates with a wide rim – the so-called ‘flange’ – and do not cool down as quickly.

Gourmet plates lend the set table a fitting fine dining ambience, allowing the gourmet dinner to be enjoyed with all the senses. For a truly brilliant presentation, it is recommended to combine the gourmet plates as a set to achieve a harmonious table setting.

Modern plates made of porcelain and stoneware
Rosenthal’s porcelain tableware is often passed down from generation to generation and holds a high status in the world of tableware. It differs from stoneware in terms of material, firing temperature and glaze. Stoneware plates are characterised by their handmade look and possess a rustic charm.
Modern plates made of porcelain by Rosenthal are distinguished by the high quality of the premium porcelain and their unique lustre. Fashionable stoneware designs, on the other hand, feature a natural-looking design with subtle textured patterns.
Today’s set tables often feature a combination of timeless porcelain tableware and stylish stoneware pieces – bringing the dining table to life with character.
Arzberg plates now available as part of the Rosenthal collections
Following its integration into Rosenthal GmbH, Arzberg has taken on a new status with its popular JOYN collection and Form 1382. The popular Arzberg plates from the JOYN and Form 1382 collections are now also part of the expanded Rosenthal range.
Whilst JOYN is known for its minimalist elegance, Form 1382 impresses with clean lines and functional design that embodies the timeless aesthetic which characterises both Arzberg and Rosenthal. The distinctive design of the Arzberg plates, now marketed under the Rosenthal brand, is characterised by a blend of classic elegance and modern functionality.
The original Arzberg plates in white and modern colours are designed so that they can be individually expanded to form a complete set of tableware. JOYN, in particular, is designed so that the colour ranges can be combined to create unique tableware arrangements – thus creating a special table setting that shines both in everyday life and on special occasions.
