Karl Hartung is one of the most popular sculptors of postwar Germany. He created monumental sculptures of stone, wood, bronze and plaster. Later on he followed a more abstract style that used geometric and cubist styles as well as floral shapes. In 1966 Hartung created the reliefs »Relief I« and »Relief II« (each 75 pieces) for Rosenthal.
