Concentration on the essentials characterises the "Suomi" dinner service by the Finn Timo Sarpaneva. When designing the compact, organic shape from 1976, Sarpaneva was inspired by the round, supple pebbles on Finland's coasts. "Suomi" is Scandinavian purism for design enthusiasts, perfect in form and sovereign. The combination of white porcelain and metal gives "Suomi" its special character. The individual pieces in this collection have been reduced to what is really necessary, but the pieces can be used in a variety of ways. For the "Suomi" shape, Timo Sarpaneva was awarded, among other things, the gold medal of Faenza, the highest award in the world of porcelain. Today, "Suomi" is one of Rosenthal's most successful services.
