This classic design from Rosenthal now features a series of graphics which follow the contours of each item, thus emphasising its shape. The designs take on the theme of structure by playing with the contrast between matt and glossy surfaces. That’s an idea that Walter Gropius himself pursued in his first design. A sandblasting technique was used on the fl at pieces to create a relief, while the velvety, matt surface of hollow objects like the teapot was achieved using etching technology. Small leaves placed one on top of the other produce a platinum coloured mosaic, which stretches across the surface of the plate and also emphasises the shape with a simple line around the rim contour.
