Tapio Wirkkala's Paper Bag vase for Rosenthal: playing with textures and perception

The Paper Bag vase collection embodies Wirkkala's unconventional approach and his ability to transform everyday objects into works of art. The paper bag vase imitates not only the shape but also the texture of a crumpled paper bag in a fascinating way, creating an amazing illusion for the viewer. This vase design exemplifies Wirkkala's love of experimentation and his playful approach to the limits of porcelain as a material.

With a combination of technical precision and artistic freedom, he created an object that is both functional and decorative. The paper bag vases became a trademark of his collaboration with Rosenthal and are still very popular today.
