By Sebastian Herkner

Necklace of glass

The extravagant »Collana« collection of vases, designed by Sebastian Herkner, incorporates a refined fusion of traditional artisanal techniques employed in porcelain and glass production. The four white, conical porcelain vases made from unglazed biscuit porcelain and a glazed rim in white, silver or gold feature a tinted, hand-blown glass embellishment around the neck in either a satined or grey finish. This allows for skilful variation of the impact generated by the object to suit the atmosphere and table or living arrangement.

Sebastian Herkner

Sebastian Herkner enthuses the German design scene – with award-winning designs that combine traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques. Born 1981 in Bad Mergentheim he works freelance since 2006 after studying product design at the Offenbach University of Art and Design.

Sebastian Herkner designs furniture, lights and tableware for manufacturers such as Moroso, Carl Mertens or Classicon – including probably his best-known design of the Bell Table, for which he was honoured with the Red Dot Design Award 2010. He works also as an interior and exhibition designer and lives in Offenbach.

In the extravagant »Collana« vase collection, the designer has succeeded in creating a refined fusion of the traditional artisan techniques employed in porcelain and glass production: the vase and bowl are simply placed on top of each other like two geometric elements and held in place by a coloured ring. The glass bowl functions as a necklace - ‘collana’ in Italian - and gives the floral bouquet a decorative aura.
