Platt and Young

Cairn Young and Robin Platt have been good friends since their youth. However, they only began to work together in 1990, when Platt graduated from the London College of Furniture and Young quit architecture school to form a partnership with his friend.

Work for Cidue and Sawaya & Moroni in Italy was followed by their first commission for Grupo T in Spain. The breakthrough for Platt & Young came following an encounter with Enrico Astori, the owner of Driade, for whom their first furniture pieces followed six months later. The designers have established their Platt & Young studio in London’s working- class Kennington district – in former stables that once belonged to gypsies. For Rosenthal they created amongst others the shape »A la Carte«.
