Jan bontjes van Beek

Jan Bontjes van Beek was one of the most famous ceramists of 20th century. As soon as 1922 he started his own business together with sculptress Amelie Breling. He was managing director at the Kunsthochschule in Berlin-Weissensee from 1947 to 1950, and from 1953 to 1960 at the Meisterschule für das Kunsthandwerk in Berlin-Charlottenburg. In 1965 he was awarded the Großer Kunstpreis (Art Prize)of the city of Berlin. He was a member of the Académie Internationale de la Céramique, Genf. Van Beek worked for Rosenthal from 1952 until 1953, during which time he designed vases for the Art Department. Awards: - Die Gute Industrieform/iF (1956) »Vasen 2643«
