Hans Stangl was a bronze sculptor. From 1938 to 1943 he was deputy director of the Deutsche Akademie in Rome. During that time he came into contact with African sculptures which influenced his creativity. Since then he created forms of an innovative, genuine design, whose plain and clear lines show an expressiveness that need no further explanation. Quotation Stangl on porcelain: "The smallest piece, if it is a matter of art, can dominate a room and impress on it the stamp of a sophisticated culture." Around 1955 Stangl created more than 20 figurines for Rosenthal.
