With “Format“, the designer Christoph de la Fontaine sculpted a trend-setting complete program for Rosenthal studio-line. The products are based on the 50’s and 60’s, but exaggerate this for the benefit of a separate and distinctive language of form. Basic architectural forms like cylinders and cones are put together in a totally new set. Interestingly with “Format” allows building a very clear and yet extremely diverse set, without resorting to decorations, flourishes, or pattern.
Christophe de la Fontaine was born in Luxembourg in 1976 and studied sculpture at the city’s Lycée des Arts et Métiers.
Between 1996 and 2002 he then studied industrial design under Richard Sapper at the State Academy of Art and Design in Stuttgart. After spells in London, Milan and Munich, he headed the design department of the Patricia Urquiola studio between 2003 and 2009.
In parallel with this position, he continued to pursue his freelance work, taking part in numerous art and design shows. In 2010, he opened his own design studio in Milan.

Tableware
With this décor the colours are melted into the glaze at 1000 degrees C. Here the glaze softens and the décor sinks into it, thus making colour and luminosity indestructible. It is scratch- and wear-resistant. However, gold decors are not totally scratch resistant by virtue of their natural material properties. This décor was tested by the Rosenthal Institute for material technology (IWT). It is dishwasher safe.
This porcelain can safely be used in the microwave.
